Green LA Coalition Water Group

Los Angeles’ sunny, semi-arid Mediterranean climate attracts far more people to live here than its natural water resources can support. Since William Mulholland’s early and audacious engineered water import system, Los Angeles has relied on an insecure and fragile infrastructure for drinking water. The Green LA Coalition – a group of non-profits, public agencies, and private citizens – works to improve watershed health and decrease our reliance on imported water. Studio-MLA supports this work by contributing design thinking and raising awareness of timely issues in a variety of ways. During the height of drought, Studio-MLA collaborated with Green LA, LA DWP, and the Mayor’s Office of Sustainability to help re-write turf rebate rules to better support soil health, biodiversity, and watershed health.
