Annenberg Community Beach House

Annenberg Community Beach House

This opulent beach estate was originally designed by Julia Morgan and developed by William Randolph Hearst for actress Marion Davies in the 1920s. Following massive destruction by the 1994 Northridge Earthquake and extensive public engagement, the Annenberg Foundation granted the City of Santa Monica funds to realize its vision of the property as a year-round public beach house, swimming pool, and gallery for community events. The design of the new buildings and grounds, as well as the cultural programming, tell the story of site, its unique place in the physical and cultural landscape, the three historical figures who shaped it, and of a private site transformed into a public universally accessible resource.
