The Eastern Columbia building is a landmark historic and cultural monument in Los Angeles since it opened in 1930. Seizing this opportunity to change the hotel’s image to attract a young, hip clientele, ML+A contributed modern landscape design elements that compliment the building’s elegant profile and the newly remodeled interior. The building was renovated into 147 light-filled loft condominiums in this historic core of downtown Los Angeles.
The rooftop courtyard is an exceptional space designed for outdoor dining and entertainment, which includes a swimming pool, spa, lounging cabanas and decorative chaise lounges. The lobby level entry has a small entry courtyard water feature in the signature Eastern Columbia tradition. The turquoise terra cotta and gold leaf epitomized the opulence of the period and now provides a timeless design for urbane living.
